For both counselling/play therapy and the anger management course, a private room is required, where distractions from noise levels elsewhere in the building are minimal. Although not essential, it is also useful for the room to have a sink (or to be close to one) for when creative materials such as paint and clay are used.
It is helpful for me to gain a little background information on each child I will be working with and so prior to the first session, I will ask for a short questionnaire to be completed by the child’s teacher or member of staff who knows them the best and also, if possible, one completed by the child’s main carer. These will be used at both the start and end of the therapy or anger management course and will include a strengths and difficulties questionnaire with the child so that any changes in the child during the course of their sessions can be tracked.
